Innovation meets DJing: a 3D printing challenge

At Hercules, we’re always looking for new ways to push the boundaries of DJing, and this time, we took things to the maker community! In an exciting collaboration with Printables, we launched a special design contest that brought 3D printing and DJing together in a creative way.

The inspiration? Josef Prusa himself—the mastermind behind Prusa 3D printers—first got into 3D printing back in 2009 to create custom accessories for his DJ setup. Now, we’re coming full circle, giving the next generation of DJs and makers the chance to revolutionize DJing on the go.

The challenge

We challenged creators to design accessories that enhance DJing on the go—anything from travel-friendly stands to smart storage solutions or compact workstation setups. The goal? To make mobile mixing smoother, more practical, and stylish. Extra points were awarded for designs tailored to the DJControl Mix, but universal solutions were also welcomed!

No controller? No problem!

To ensure accessibility for all participants, Hercules provided detailed dimensions, drawings, and files for the DJControl Mix controller, which served as the foundation for the contest. This way, even those who didn’t own a Hercules controller could design with precision and innovation.

The prizes

Participants had the chance to win some seriously exciting rewards, including:

• A brand-new Original Prusa MK4S Kit
• Hercules DJ gear
• A bundle of Prusameters

What’s next?

The contest wrapped up with some incredible submissions, proving that creativity has no limits when DJs and makers join forces.

After this showcase of true talent, we selected the most inventive designs that blended practicality, usability, printability, innovation and design. Choosing the winners was no easy task for our team: with so many creative and well-executed models, we were very impressed by the ingenuity, quality, and fun behind each submission. Narrowing it down to just three finalists was a real challenge—but that’s a great problem to have.

First place

The DJControl Mix Shape Modular Foldable Case from @creadesign is a sleek, 3D-printed protective case designed for the Hercules DJControl Mix. Its modular and foldable design makes it ultra-portable, offering a secure fit while allowing for easy transport and storage. With a sturdy yet lightweight structure, it ensures DJs can take their controller anywhere without compromising protection or convenience.

Second place

The ThunderFlash Disco Lights for Hercules DJ controller by @Mindutis add a dynamic visual element to any DJ setup. This 3D-printed accessory features customizable LED light slots that sync with the controller’s design, enhancing performances with a vibrant, club-like atmosphere. Compact and easy to attach, it’s the perfect addition for DJs looking to elevate their mobile setups with an extra touch of flair.

Third place

The Hercules DJControl Mix Mount by @scullptoris a versatile 3D-printed accessory that allows DJs to attach their DJControl Mix to tripods or flat surfaces. Designed for convenience, it provides an ergonomic setup for mixing on the go, whether performing outdoors, in tight spaces, or on unconventional surfaces. Its adjustable and sturdy build ensures a reliable hold, making mobile DJing more flexible than ever.
